The beginning of the K/Ankumbura central collage one of the oldest schools in Harispaththuwa electorate is dated on 01st of may 1903 which was not a public holiday at that time. It was “ANCOOMBRA SCHOOL” and later become “ANKUMBURA PARAKRAMA”. At the beginning there were 13 students 3 teachers and classes were conducted in a hut. The first principal was A.A.G.Domingo. A.M. Pinhami was the first student in the school and later retired the principal of the school.
The teacher’s quarters which in use today was the superintendent’s bungalow in those days and there was a stable near it.
Due to the increase of number of students, a tiled thatched new building was constructed. As the student population grew rapidly, school schedules were changed. Classes were constructed in 2 sessions as grade 1-5 in the morning (till 11.30 a.m.) and 6-11 in the afternoon.
From 1960, again all the students got the chance to participate lessons in normal time schedule.The last principal of the school when only primary classes were conducted was Mr.A.M.Madduma Banda.
On 01st June 1961, school declared as “Maha Vidyalaya” and on 22nd march 1980 it was named of a “Central Collage” by the president J.R.Jayawardane. After becoming a central collage A/L science streams were started and laboratory facilities were provide by the governments.On 16th of February 1974, the school got the “National School” state.
The first graduate teachers of the school were Mrs.Shrila Rajakaruna, Mrs.Chandra Samarasekara, Mr.W.N.Nawarathn, Mr.C..Nawarathne, Mr.S.B.Alawala
Mithili Ranaringhe was the 1st student who qualified to enter the university.
Mr.A.M.Pinhami, Mr.A.G.Premadasa , Mr.S.M.R.B.Mallawa Mr.H.G.D.Godakumbura worked as the principals of the school and they all were past pupils of the school. Among the principal served in the school, Mr.S.M.R.B.Mallawa held the position for 12 years and it in the longest period of the service given by principal to the school.
